Things went disastrously wrong. It was a real mess. We tried to {compensate|handle the situation, but it was like trying to stop a blizzard with a teaspoon. We're still picking up the debris and feeling the blow of this unmitigated catastrophe.

This problem has spiraled out of control. It's a total disaster. We've tried just about everything to fix it, but nothing seems to be effective. At this point, it feels like we're hopelessly stuck. Honestly, I don't know what else to do. This is a nightmare of epic proportions.

Sometimes you find yourself face-to-face with situations so awful that you can't help but burst out chuckling. It's like your brain tries to process the sheer level of chaos and just gives up, opting for laughter as check here a coping strategy.

Worst Day Ever
It all started with a case of morning hair. I couldn't do it to look decent. As I was getting ready out the door, I fell and gracefully all over the carpet. To make matters worse, I was totally behind schedule for work.

It all started out badly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then things went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to scream into a pillow.
